Happy Friday Friends!
"Bloom where you're planted." This is one of those cutesy phrases that you hear and maybe let it go in one ear and out the other, but it's something I've been thinking about lately.
How many of you feel like you are exactly where you thought you'd be in life at your age? I'm guessing not many of you. When you are a little kid, you dream about being something that makes you excited- veterinarian, astronaut, basketball star, surgeon, pageant queen. You maybe dream about moving away from your hometown and living on the beach or up in the mountains.
Somewhere along the line we drift from the path we dreamed of when we were little kids. We grow up. Life happens. One day you are looking at your life, and wishing for other things- wishing for a better job, a bigger house, a more exciting social life. We spend so much time wishing for other things that many times we lose sight of what we have now and the opportunities that are already in front of us.
I grew up in a small town, and I never thought I'd live there when I grew up. I was going to go to college and move away to a bigger town. I did go to college and graduated with my B.S. in Psychology, and then I did what I said I'd never do- move back to my hometown. It was never my intention to stay there but times goes quickly and soon enough I've been back for 4 years. Some people have made comments that I should get out of here, go move somewhere bigger, and belittle me for living where I do. Don't think I haven't thought those same thoughts a time or two, but you know what? Bloom where you're planted.
We always think we need some big change to make our life better, but the truth is our life is what we make of it. You don't need a better job to make you happier. You don't need a bigger house to feel adequate. You don't need to change your whole life to move forward with your dreams or make your life more fulfilling. Start where you are, exactly where you are without any huge changes. Of course I'd love a big space to rent and have a storefront for my boutique, but right now that isn't in the cards. I'm working with what I've got right now and making the best of it until someday I can have that storefront I dream of. If you never start where you are, you will never get where you want to be.
Instead of seeing only what you don't have, look at what opportunities you do have right now and take advantage of them. Wherever you are in your journey, bloom where you're planted. With the right attitude, nothing can stop you from living your dreams.
